The Sonoco Institute

The Sonoco Institute was created to exploit the synergies that exist between the graphic communications and packaging science departments. It is the only university program in the country with this one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary approach to packaging as a core competency.

Digital Plates and Screening for Flexo

We have revamped the Digital Plates and Screening for Flexo seminar to give you a behind-the-scenes look at optimizing all of the variables in the plate selection process. Round top or flat top? Hard or soft durometer? Which of these 3 dozen screening options? How do I determine my minimum dot? We'll be conducting several print trials with all of these variables on multiple substrates, with both UV and water-based inks.

Working with industry experts, you will learn how each variable interacts to affect print outcomes, and develop an understanding of how to achieve optimium and repeatable results on every plate, every press run.

This is a one and a half day seminar, concluding around noon on the last day.

Hands-on Sessions:

  • Plate, Stickyback, and Screening Variables on Various Substrates
  • Plate Imaging, Evaluation, and Process Control
  • Establishing Optimal Screening and Calibration Curves
  • Plate Exposing, Processing, Measurement, and Process Control

Presentations Topics Include:

  • The Digital Workflow
  • Imaging, Exposing, and Processing Options
