The Sonoco Institute

The Sonoco Institute was created to exploit the synergies that exist between the graphic communications and packaging science departments. It is the only university program in the country with this one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary approach to packaging as a core competency.

Student Group Finalists for 48 Repack Competition

A team from Clemson University placed in the top 3 in this year’s 48 Repack Student Packaging Design Competition. The goal of the competition is to create “smart design” packaging for everyday products. The competition took place over 48 hours back in February. The team was made up of 4 graduate students, Rachel Randall, Katie Thackston, Gabrielle Conlon, and Julianne Holmes.

This year the competition encouraged students to solve the problems associated with certain everyday products. These products included dress shirts, bar soap, mouthwash, and butter. The team from Clemson chose to work with dress shirt packaging. Their design, “MPRESSED”, solved all of the problems associated with dressed shirt packaging.

This week, it was announced that the team placed in the top 3. The top 3 teams will present their designs at NEXTPACK on May 2 in Atlanta where the winner will be announced. The top 3 teams are also invited to Wal-Mart’s Sustainable Packaging Expo May 6-9.

Stay tuned to see where Clemson’s team places on May 2!
