The Sonoco Institute

The Sonoco Institute was created to exploit the synergies that exist between the graphic communications and packaging science departments. It is the only university program in the country with this one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary approach to packaging as a core competency.

Clemson Team Wins 48 Hour Repack Competition!

A team of 4 graduate students from Clemson University was awarded first place in the 2013 IOPP 48 Hour Repack Competition for their innovative dress shirt packaging design, “MPRESSED”.  The national competition had a total of 38 entries this year. The winners were announced at the 2013 NEXTPACK Conference in Atlanta. The MPRESSED team consisted of Katie Thackston, Rachel Randall, Gabrielle Conlon, and Julianne Holmes.  In addition to winning $3,000 in scholarship money, the team was also invited to present at Walmart’s Sustainable Packaging Expo in Arkansas.  The MPRESSED team spent 3 days in Rogers, Arkansas for the Expo and presented their design in the exclusive exhibitor meeting. The team was given a booth to exhibit their packaging design, and they were even asked to do an encore presentation on the final day of the Expo!
