The Sonoco Institute

The Sonoco Institute was created to exploit the synergies that exist between the graphic communications and packaging science departments. It is the only university program in the country with this one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary approach to packaging as a core competency.

Clemson Students Participate in 48 Hour Repack

This year, the IoPP Southeastern Chapter held the 5th annual “48 Hour Re-Pack” Student Packaging Design Competition. The competition encourages students to use creative problem solving to create new packaging designs for everyday products. A design prompt is given to the participants on Friday night and the final design must be turned in 48 hours later. This year the products in which students could pick to redesign were: eggs, coffee creamer, bacon, and syrup. Gabrielle Conlon and Katie Thompson were two Clemson University students who participated in the competition this year. They chose to redesign egg packaging. Their unique new design incorporates the following features: customizable quantities, easy transport, eggs are easily accessible and secure, 100% recyclable package, and only one piece of material.  The single carton contains four eggs, but the handle also acts as an interlocking feature to stack more cartons. The graphics and “Well-Raised” branding reflect the simplicity and quality of the product. Stay tuned to how the design places in the competition!
